| Abstract: | Modality is a common problem area for non-native speakers of English, and misuse and/or overuse of modals is quite prevalent in the academic writing of tertiary-level students in Hong Kong. This study attempts to address the specific language needs of Computer Science undergraduates at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology with respect to the use of modal verbs. |
