Abstract: Polyacetylene is the best-known conducting polymer, whose doped form exhibits metallic conductivity. However, its insolubility and infusibility, have significant limited the scope of its applications. Introduction of liquid crystalline moiety as substituent into polyacetylene is expected to improve solubility and fusibility. We now report the synthesis, structure, and thermal stability of a monsubstituted polyacetylene with a liquid-crystalline moiety in the side chain as shown below.
