| Abstract: | Travel time reliability and capacity reliability are considered to be two useful measures of the performance of a road traffic network. The former is concerned with the probability that a trip between a given origin-destination pair can be made successfully within a specified interval of time for a given level of traffic demand in the network; while the latter is given as the probability that the network can accomodate a certain traffic demand at a required level of service. Determination of both reliabilities requires accounting for drivers' route choice behavior. This paper proposes to evaluate and synthesize the two interdependent reliabilities of a road network subject to link capacity degradation. A numerical example is demonstrated to allow for intuitive perception of the changes of the travel time and capacity reliability at varied levels of traffic demand and level of service, thereby leading to a practical and useful reliability-based comprehensive performance measure of a road network. |
