| Abstract: | The aim of this review, is firstly, to examine how the findings ('commonest words' and 'commonest patterns') from some specialised corpora have been or could be used to inform English for Specific Purpose (ESP) syllabus design. The ''commonest words' have been classified as content and function words and the 'commonest patterns' are taken to include both lexical and grammatical patterning. The second part of the review will examine the application of concordancing techniques to the creation of teaching materials either through using concordanced output or through 'hands-on' concordancing for inductive learning. |
