Abstract: A cruise, jointly conducted by the Civil Engineering Department, HKG, the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, and Ocean University of Qingdao, was made from September 18 to 20, 1994 to measure the suspended solids and chlorophyll-a concentration in Victoria Harbour and coastal waters utilizing a Raman lidar called the Blue Laser Ocean Lidar developed by the Ocean University of Qingdao. All together 10 locations were measured, 7 on the west side and 3 on the east. In situ suspended solids and biological samples were also taken and a comparison was made to determine the validity of using lidar for water quality monitoring in shallow coastal waters.
