Abstract: A heterogeneous copper catalyst was developed using porous MCM-41 as the catalyst support. Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide solution was used as the template and fumed silica as the silicon source for the preparation of MCM-41, which resulted in large pore volume and uniform pore size and was readily available for adsorption of active element. Copper was added to the surface of MCM-41 by ion exchange at ambient temperature. The adsorption-related physical properties of the prepared Cu/MCM-41 catalyst were determined in terms of BET surface, pore volume, copper loading. The developed catalysts were evaluated in the catalytic wet oxidation of phenol solution with an initial concentration of 1,300 ppm. The catalyst was found to be of high catalytic activity.
