| Abstract: | We investigate the problem of how the phenomenon of x-ray edge singularity got modified in a class of non-equilibrium systems with more than one Fermi seas at different chemical potentials coupling to each other. The is solved by generalizing the solution of Noziéres and De Domincis problem for equilibrium systems to the present non-equilibrium situation. We find a much stronger orthogonality catastrophe effect associated with potential differences between different Fermi seas. Some consequences of the present result are pointed out. |
