Title: Multitone transceiver for mobile radio applications

Abstract: A multicarrier modulation (MCM) is considered as an efficient technique in digital transmission under the multipath fading. In this project, the bit error rate (BER) performance of MCM/ QPSK scheme is theoretically analyzed. The optimum values for the parameters of different components in the multitone transceiver are studied. Different encoding schemes are used to show the tradeoff between the power and bandwidth efficiency. Multi- amplitude bit rate schemes may be applied in a wireless channel because of the channel tracking ability of the multitone transceiver. Simulations are done to verify the theoretically predicted BER in the Gaussian and fading channels. The simulation platform is built by the software tool known as Signal Processing Worksystem (SPW). Automatic gain control (AGC) and switching diversity are studied in an attempt to improve the performance of MCM in the fading channel. Guard interval, pulse shaping and equalization are described and studied to eliminate the ISI effect caused by the bandlimited channel and the selective fading channel.
