Title: Navier-Stokes shock structure calculation by gas kinetic schemes

Abstract: In this thesis the extension of Xu's BGK scheme with the inclusion of non-equilibrium state to describe the initial macroscopic flow is presented. Furthermore, two types of numerical methods based on the BGK equation are also included. Comparisons among different kinetic schemes for the Navier-Stokes shock structure calculations are obtained. In the case of collision time being larger than the time step, i.e., large physical viscosity case, the shock wave structure is properly resolved and the result is satisfactory.
