| Title: | Quality of service in multimedia DCA wireless network |
| Authors: | Wong, Yiu Ming |
| Issue Date: | 1998 |
| Abstract: | Mobile communication has been steadily gaining popularity. The current generation of wireless networks uses Fixed Channel Allocation (FCA) scheme provides only narrow-band communication and does not provide any Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee to the users.
In this thesis, we propose an adaptive call admission control algorithm for multimedia traffic, based on Dynamic Channel Allocation (DCA) scheme, which can improve channel utilization without sacrificing QoS. Statistical techniques are used to estimate the bandwidth required for hand-offs and enough channels are reserved to ensure the required QoS is satisfied.
An analytical model that evaluates the performance of the proposed scheme is presented. The results obtained from the model are validated through simulation. The results show marked improvement over FCA schemes, both under narrowband-only traffic and multimedia traffic. |
