|Abstract: ||In the third generation wireless cellular network UMTS, more dynamic situations such as hotspot, heterogeneous mobility and multimedia are anticipated. A stable and adaptive resource management scheme which guarantee the call level QoS under different dynamic traffic is studied. It combines a cost-based DCA scheme and an adaptive bandwidth reservation scheme in a distributed and event-based fashion. Bandwidth reservation is performed in a group of neighboring cells surrounding an active call and is computed by estimating a future handoff load. The reserved bandwidth plus the current loading in the cell will be bounded by a prescribed threshold, so the QoS on handoff dropping and forced call termination can be guaranteed.
Simulation results have shown the scheme outperforms FCA-based and DCA-based schemes without resource management under uniform and hotspot traffic. A new analytical approach to DCA networks based on channel locking is introduced and plays an important role in further studies of network with heterogeneous traffics. Several reservation policies were proposed for user with different mobility in order to bound the forced call termination probability.|
