| Title: | Developing a dynamic mechanism for conceptual clustering in an object database system |
| Authors: | Li, Qing Yuen, Man Sheung |

| Abstract: | This report describes an experimental implementation of an advanced mechanism for dynamic conceptual clustering. A main objective of developing such a dynamic mechanism is to complement the conventional static, classification-based modeling approach of contemporary object databases, so that more application dynamics can be accommodated. The current prototype system has implemented, based on a comprehensive model, the most essential features for conceptual clustering, providing the user with the desired capabilities to group/cluster database objects dynamically in forming new "complex", "active" objects. A persistent C++ object database programming environment (viz., Ode) has been utilized for the implementation, and the resultant prototype system is running on a SUN 4 workstation. |
