Summary The role played by conversational interaction in the learner's acquisition of second language has been a major concern in second language acquisition research. For this reason, foreigner talk discourse (FTD) has been studied per se, since it may be assumed that the native speaker's (NS) conversational adjustments play an important role in making input comprehensible. Such studies also highlight the non-native speaker's (NNS) participation in the interaction, as NS-NNS conversation is observed to feature the effort of both participants to negotiate meaning and sustain the conversation.
