Adaptive dynamic absorber for full range response mitigation of long-span bridges

|Summary||Acceleration response induced by buffeting and vortex may be large enough to go beyond the serviceability criteria when wind speed is lower than the design one. For long span bridges in the high wind speed, flutter stability performance often needs to be further improved with installment of control devices. The control to achieve the two objectives with an adaptive energy absorber system whose stiffness can be adjusted is adopted in the paper. The adaptive controller is designed to meet the serviceability criteria when wind speed is lower than the design one. When wind speed is high than the design one, the adaptive energy absorber is tuned to trace the optimal variables to make the acceleration response be minimal since too large acceleration response may cause the accumulation of fatigue on the bridge. When wind speed is even higher, the continuo[u]s tracing of frequency for the flutter dominant mode may control flutter accordingly. Yichang Suspension Bridge is selected to demonstrate the multiple objectives control scheme.|
