Summary Cyclin-dependent protein kinase 5 (Cdk5) has been shown to be involved in neuronal cell differentiation in the form of an active kinase, named neuronal Cdc2-like kinase (Nclk). However, its activity was shown to be suppressed by forming complex with p35nck5a. Therefore, there is a need for identifying the identities of various binding proteins in the macromolecular protein complex. The present inventors have now succeeded in isolating three novel p35nck5a binding proteins useful for a variety of purposes, particularly as tools to analyze how p35nck5a interacts with other proteins and for drug development for Alzheimer's Disease. This invention provides a method to screen a large number of molecules or compounds for their ability to form complexes with the p35nck5a binding protein of the invention. It also provides a method of using the p35nck5a binding protein of the invention to purify a molecule or compound which specifically binds the p35nck5a binding protein of the invention.
