Summary The recession of the late 1990s has not derailed the growth of mobile communications in the Asia-Pacific region. Thanks to i-mode, mobile internet access is well established in Japan, paving the way for 3G and giving a fillip to the content industry. Hardware manufacturers are also tooling up for 3G, while developing countries in the region are saving billions by leap-frogging fixed lines for mobiles. For next-generation mobile technologies, will the sun rise in the east?
