||The project management computing support is mature for project planning. Monitoring and control are also very important to the management of projects. However, the current state of computing support for monitoring and control of projects is not effective and efficient to assist project managers in the dynamic project environment. This research aims to use workflow-based technology to improve the project management computing support in project monitoring and control. For the workflow modeling, Management Petri Net is used. The workflow model provides support for active tracking, resource management, information management and decision making. The workflow model is realized by Object Modeling Technique providing a generic design for the workflow-based system to support project management. The object-oriented design is modeled based on the requirements developed by analyzing the current state of project management computing support. A prototype of the proposed design is developed using object-oriented programming. The prototype uses two-tier client-server architecture. The prototype is linked to existing project management software that is responsible for project planning. Therefore the same data is reflected from the point of view of project planning and from the workflow-based monitoring and control system. The prototype demonstrates the effectiveness and ease of use of the proposed approach.
